Horse & Hound Supersize Plans Greenlit. Again.

aving originally applied for 27 bedrooms to their existing 8 back in February 2021, the Horse & Hound reduction to 17 for a fresh December planning application has paid off.

Wicklow County Council gave the Delgany landmark conditional approval in July 2022 but that was appealed to An Bord Pleanála by a third party.

And now, the ABP gang have given the 17 rooms the thumbs up, albeit with 10 conditions – viewable here.

It’s a smart move on proprietors Mark and Mary Molloy’s part, given that Greystones hasn’t had two hotel rooms to rub together since The La Touche Hotel shut its doors on May 22nd, 2005. Here’s hoping we soon will have another hotel in town.

Over on Wicklow Planning’s website, the details for original application no.211488 from Coconut Point Ltd are… 

(1) Provision of a new rear 2-storey extension, comprising 17 bedrooms to rear of existing building. (2) Conversion of existing 1st floor kitchen/dining room to 2 en-suite bedrooms 5A and 6A. (3) Retention permission for existing first floor en-suite bedrooms 2A to 4A. (4) Provision also sought for new traffic management system and pedestrian access off the current car park entrance. (5) All necessary foul, mains and surface water connections and all public services. (6) All ancillary works to facilitate the above-mentioned proposals.

Said Mark and Mary this afternoon, “We are excited to be able to expand our business and to provide much needed tourist accommodation which will give a boost to the village and local economy.”
