From the planning notice (conveniently left out in the article):
“amendments to a mixed use residential development permitted under Reg Ref 15/114 (ABP Ref Pl27.245501) to consist of the removal of the 4 storey former main La Touche Hotel building in entirety (total area c 1554 sqm) and its replacement with a replica building with generally identical facades … The proposed new building will replicate all existing features including the height of four storeys and building footprint, in addition to new and replacement balconies / terraces on the east and west elevations and ancillary works.”
I think it’s poor reporting to leave out the crucial detail; “replacement with a replica building with generally identical facades”.
This is sensationalist reporting that is feeding a deceiving and disruptive agenda to halt much needed redevelopment of this ugly, long-time vacant site in the midst of a housing shortage.
The architectural heritage and character of the old will be retained. The rebuild will afford better building standards to the future residents and facilitate a high energy rating for the complex.

Who are the new people behind Crimsom Lane. The last planning proposal was in the name of Kavcrean, which we discovered were Greg Kavanagh from Arklow and Pat Crean who is from Tralee. Both of these seem to have split up. So who are the new developers. How come the demolition work stopped quite suddenly some months ago and there was no comment from any quarter as to what happened. At this stage preserving the building is a total waste. It is gone beyond saving and the sooner this eyesore is removed from the landscape the better.
Hear, hear! Tearing down the La Touch should only be the beginning. What about that that eyesore up by the north beach named locally as Crispin Cell. No roof, no windows… it doesn’t even have plumbing. Imagine the price you’d get for an apartment up there overlooking the Irish Sea. It’s a developers dream!

20 euro to object!?! How come there was no such charge when the option to object to the development of the harbour was made available. Speaking of which brings to mind the overwhelming support objecting that development garnered. Didn’t get us very far though.
