t was pretty obvious pretty early on who was going to win GG’s inaugural Top Of The Shops award.

We were searching for that special somewhere that felt like a home away from home.

Only better. Because they have stuff you liked. And they’re willing to part with it for money. And a smile.

There are plenty of places offering just such a treat around the town, with the person behind the counter being pretty much as important as the item on the shelf that you came in for.

Just take a look at young Katie Bradshaw. Not only will this beautiful girl serve you your much-needed coffee jolt and that illicit, sugar-coated, diet-napalming treat, but she will do so with a smile, a happy story, and a speed and efficiency that’s going to make sure you don’t miss your train.

And the reason we knew Katie was going to win our Top Of The Shops 2017 accolade? Well, of the 5.73m votes that came down the pipeline, 5.729m had the name Bradshaw buried in there somewhere. Failing that, the odd Cullen smart enough to use a computer popped by.

So, congrats to Katie. Having now earned the crown of Greystones’ finest when it comes to service with a smile, the young Bradshaw lass is handing in her Insomnia badge to go follow her dream – and her training – to work in the Park Academy creche. Where the babies won’t be quite so big, and only half as hyper.

Amen, sister. We’re blessed in this town with some wonderful little shops, and in an age when the internet and the bargain bin mega-markets offer all kinds of dirt cheap bargains, it’s never been more important to support your local lone trader.
