Well, the competition might have been tough at the British Open Championships 2016, but Greystones Baton Twirlers spun the judges right round, baby, right round. Like a record.
Not only did Jessica Howard and Aimee Sweeney end up winning 3rd and 4th place in the Junior Section, but Chloe Hayden walked away with 1st place in the Senior Section – and was then crowned British Open Champion 2016.

Not that Greystones Baton Twirlers are exactly strangers when it comes to winning awards, but holy, what a result for our local heroes.
The British Baton Twirling Sports Association‘s big annual competition took place at the Sir Tom Finney Sports Centre in Preston, and the Greystones gang were there in force, including pre-teen freestylers Laura Sweeney, Kayleigh Moorehouse and Sarah Hayden. And everyone was in fine spirits too, naturally enough, when those wins started racking up.
Which may explain why we’re running this story 24 hours after the championship took place. I’ve been assured by those involved that the celebrations were just too intense – and perhaps even a little too wild – to think of actually letting us know back home until this morning.
Well done to everyone involved. And I hope you get over your joyful hangovers last until at least late Monday night.
