Glad To Be Ré

Hidden treasure…

f young Ré was impressed with winning the title of Greystones Most Beautiful Baby 2021, well, he was pretty darn good at hiding it.

You lookin’ at me…?

Barely a smile broke across his stoic little face, with not even a €50 voucher for Lou & Belle or an oversized framed cert to his beauty cracking that Buster Keaton stare.

Dad Fergal tried squeezing his cheeks. Mum Laura tried bouncing him up and down. We tried pulling funny faces and adopting our silliest voice.

Not a flicker. And then, suddenly, a smile. We’re still not sure if Ré was just happy that he got all of us to act the goon for him without his moving a muscle.

The place is baby boutique Lou & Belle on Theatre Lane, Greystones’ mini-Grafton Street running from Hillside Road to Meridian Point. Ali’s cuddly little shop sponsored this year’s bonny baby competition, and she was more than happy to surprise Fergal and Laura with a €50 voucher along with their coveted certificate proving that their offspring was officially the most handsome, debonair and downright cutest cherub in all of Greystones.

“This is something that we’re definitely going to remind Ré of all the way through his life,” says Fergal. “I think it will be particularly effective during his teenage years.

“Forget that,” smiles Laura. “I’ll be bringing this framed pic to his wedding…”

For Lou & Belle owner Ali, ‘Looking over the entries for this year, it didn’t surprise us that there were so many bonny babies in Greystones. Quite a few of these cuties have been coming through out doors…”

Normally, we would have announced the winner of November’s Beautiful Baby competition in the first week of December, but this year, we noticed that quite a few votes were coming from the same computer.

And then we noticed, hey, there’s another hundred votes or so bouncing off that one email address too.

Which is why it has taken us two weeks to finally calm down enough to go sort out the legitimate votes from all those from overly-loving parents and the crazy nanas with nothing but time and a computer on their hands.

In the end, it was clear early on that Ré was the one. Congrats to all of this year’s entries, and a big thank you to Lou & Belle for helping make it happen..
