Legends is feckin’ right…

hen Greystones United Football Club announced that they were getting such bona-fide Irish football legends such as Paul McGrath and Ray Houghton to come to our little town for a kick-about, well, we weren’t entirely sure they weren’t kidding.

This afternoon though, there they were, mixing it up with the next generation of Ireland’s footballing heroes.

It was as much a thrill for those of a certain age – who would have whooped and hollered at the skill these icons brought to the Ireland squad during their heyday – as it was for the younger generation, who quickly realised that they were in the presence of royalty.

And that, yikes, we’d better get their autographs before they get back on their spaceship and beam the hell out of here.

Luckily for those who couldn’t make it along this afternoon, young John McGowan was on hand with his trusty camera. Great video here too, from Alan McCarthy. Back o’ the net!
