Schools should never be stagnant places and it’s extremely important
It’s also important to emphasise that there will be another time for thanks and goodbyes. My new position in Rathdown doesn’t start until next September and we’re not going to waste time on some sort of maudlin long goodbye.

The next few months are going to be very exciting for the school.
Schools should never be stagnant places and it’s extremely important
for schools to keep progressing and keep changing. And this applies to their management as much as anything else.
When I was appointed, I felt that the first Principal of our new school should serve for about seven years and then make way for someone else. The problem was that I loved working in TCG so much that the years drifted by very happily and very quickly and, just shy of eleven years later, it really is a healthy time for a change!
From my own point of view, I’m fifty-five this summer and at an age where I want to carry on for another ten years (and whatever about doing eleven years here, twenty-one would be excessive), but if I don’t move quickly, I’ll soon be too old to be attractive to potential employers.
Therefore, I’m writing to let you that I will be leaving the school at the end of this year and that I have accepted the position of Principal of Rathdown School.
While words cannot adequately express how sad I am to be leaving TCG, I do think that this is going to be an exciting and positive time for you all.
