hen it comes to musical genius, the true mavericks have always marched to the beat of their own drum.

Well, when it came to Alan ‘Elvis’ Adamson stepping away from backing tracks and flying solo with live musicians this afternoon, we reckon there must have been quite a few drums involved.

And they each seemed to be tuned in their own peculiar way. 

Yep, what we’re dealing with here is a man out of time – repeatedly – but, that didn’t seem to matter this afternoon at The Hot Spot. Alan was flying high, singing his heart out, all that love he has felt for The King since he was four years old finally having a chance to be heard.

It was in September of last year that Alan actually made his first appearance on a stage as Elvis, storming the Greystones Film Club’s screening of Elvis: ’68 Comeback Special with three rollicking numbers. That time, it was Alan singing along to The King’s original recordings.

This afternoon, there were no safety wheels. Just a bunch of groovy Hot Spot session vets, and a lifetime spent listening to Elvis every single day for fifty years.

So, let’s not get caught up in such small details as song structure, tempo or lyrics, as Alan takes on A Fool Such As I, Blue Moon Of Kentucky and Suspicious Minds. Each Elvis classic is given a brand new reality.

Alan’s personal favourite is It’s Now Or Never, so, we’ve included that one below. Suffice to say, this could be the start of a beautiful new chapter for our once and future King…
