Grin & Bare It For Wicklow Hospice

Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services (OLH&CS), Wicklow, is daring the brave men of Wicklow and surrounds to bare all and take part in its male-only Dip in the Nip, on the morning of Sunday 13th October 2024 on Greystones South Beach, Wicklow.

The annual event has been running since 2019 and is again being supported by offshore renewable energy project, Codling Wind Park.

Wicklow Hospice hopes that men will dare to bare in support of hospice care by lining up on the Greystone South Beach. By participating and aiming to achieve sponsorship of at least €200 each, our fearless heroes, groups, clubs, and workplace colleagues are raising vital funds to help us continue to provide high levels of specialist care and comfort for patients and their families.

On dip day, men and their supporters can expect live music on arrival to the beach, before our brave dippers head to a more secluded section of the shoreline. With a fearsome roar, the group will join together for Wicklow Hospice and run headlong into the sea! After their dip, each participant will be served a welcome hot drink, and everyone goes home with a goody bag including an exclusive ‘Dip in the Nip’ gift.

Codling Wind Park Project Director, Scott Sutherland, said: “The Codling team are proud to be strong supporters of Wicklow Hospice and the incredible work they do with families across the county.”

He added: “As well as being an important fundraiser for the Hospice and the work they do, Dip in the Nip is a really fun, community event. We are really looking forward to supporting Dip in the Nip and some of us will be participating too!”

Eleanor Flew, Director of Fundraising & Communications at OLH&CS said: “We are delighted to continue our important partnership with Codling Wind Park as they sponsor Dip in the Nip. Community fundraising played a vital role in ensuring we were able to open the doors of Wicklow Hospice in 2020, the first dedicated palliative care facility in Wicklow.”

“Fundraising and community support continue to be the life blood of our work at Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services, Wicklow, whether that’s in our in-patient facility which cared for 207 inpatients last year or our Community Palliative Care Team, which made 2,037 visits to people’s homes. Initiatives like Dip in the Nip help ensure the continued provision and development of our services, so we urge the people of Wicklow and surrounds to come out and support, whether that be through participation or sponsoring one of the brave participants,” she added.

This year’s event takes place on the morning of Sunday 13th October 2024. The women of Wicklow are also asked to show their support by encouraging the men in their lives to sign up and supporting their fearless friends or family taking part.
