usan Brambell – aka The Word Bird – is a font-loving, list making, word-collecting designer living and working in Greystones, Co Wicklow.
And we just love her work here at GG HQ.
A second level English and Drama teacher for many years, Susan is now working full-time on her word art and digital design.
Literature, especially children’s literature, features strongly in her work. Susan’s interest in vernacular language led to the creation of The Manky Map, which is being sported on Irish pub walls all over the world. Her ready-to-go collection now numbers almost fifty pieces, all framed in locally-made wooden frames.
Commissioned pieces are very popular as gifts, where a list is compiled and a shape chosen to suit a particular individual. Susan’s tagline is, ‘You choose the shape, you provide the words. I make the print, I frame the picture. Together we make someone very happy‘.
Which sounds like a pretty fine idea to us, and a fair deal to boot.
So, whether it’s for a wedding, a birthday, an anniversary or a retirement, a customised word picture is an affectionate gift which will be treasured forever.
