The Big South Beach Clean

And the living is easy…

n annual end-of-summer event that attracts volunteers across the land, the Big Beach Clean is upon us.

And last year, some 7,700 volunteers having signed up nationwide.

In County Wicklow, over any boys agus girls signing up with receive free clean-up kits to tackle litter on our seafronts.

That the South Beach is one of Wicklow’s finest means that a few extra hands in helping Greystones continue the regular gongs and whistles won by our sandy paradise is always welcomed. Even if it’s just a case of taking on the Take 3 challenge.

The Big Beach Clean is an annual battle-cry by Clean Coasts that calls on volunteers from communities all over Ireland to get involved in removing litter from our beautiful coasts come the end of summer.

This year, the clean-up will be running from September 20th to the 22nd, Greystones is on Friday 20th from 3pm to 4.30pm, with the good work done also going towards a worldwide citizen science project. The charting of the amount and types of litter found on Irish beaches will be entered in Clean Coasts’ Marine Litter Data Cards, which will then help heighten awareness of marine litter whilst serving as an indicator of the magnitude of the problem.

It will also give you a greater sense of community, active citizenship and increase environmental awareness, whilst leaving you with a much cleaner beach, of course.

So, a win, win, win, win, win situation.
