Over 2,000 Wicklow 18-Year-Olds Get Child Benefit

Taoiseach Simon Harris has announced 2,135 18-year-olds in Wicklow have benefited from Child Benefit extension this year.

Child Benefit is now being paid to anyone who is 18 and in full-time education, or who has a disability, up until their 19th birthday.

Child Benefit is paid at a rate of €140 per month.

The Taoiseach has welcomed the extension of Child Benefit to 18-year-olds who are in full time education. This extension is about helping families with the cost of education, the cost of living and is putting money back into people’s pockets.

Speaking today, Taoiseach Simon Harris said: “I’m delighted today to announce over 2,000 18-year-olds in Wicklow have benefited from the extension of Child Benefit this year.

“As Taoiseach I am determined to make the lives of families across the country and in County Wicklow more affordable by putting money back into their pockets.

“Under my leadership, this Government is focussed on helping families with the cost of living and the cost of education.

“The extension of Child Benefit this year has benefited 58,000 young people nationwide.

“I want to thank my colleague and Fine Gael Deputy Leader Minister Heather Humphreys for all the work she has done in her Department to extend child benefit to tens of thousands of families this year.

“This has been hugely successful and is only one of the measures this Government has put forward to help families.

“Other measures include the extension of free schoolbooks, the expansion of hot school meals programmes to thousands of schools, the increase of SUSI maintenance grants and so much more.

“As a TD for Wicklow I will always work as hard as I can to make sure people in Wicklow are supported and helped while raising a family.”
