t was back in July 2020 that we first spoke to Kilcoole teenager Jake Mitchell about his wild idea to have a skate park in the town.
Being the smart – and award-winning – kid that he is, Jake soon had not only Kilcoole but local politicians backing his campaign.
Which may explain Minister Simon Harris’ social media post this morning…
I am delighted to let you know that this morning we have secured €250,000 through the Town and Village Renewal Scheme for a new skate and scooter park in Kilcoole, adjacent to the existing playground.
This is brilliant news for young people in the community and for over 2 years I have been working hard to make this happen.
I was contacted by an incredible Kilcoole teenager, Jake Mitchell, who started to campaign for this facility for young people in Kilcoole and it was an absolute honour to work closely with him to get to this point. He has made a real difference in his community and I want to thank him and congratulate him.
Thanks also to Wicklow County Council for working with me on this and to Cllr Tom Fortune who worked closely on it also.
Great news for Kilcoole. A good day!
Bada-BOOM! You can check out that July 2020 interview with the bould Jake right here.
