Household Hazardous & Bulky Waste Collections

t’s time to clear out all those unwanted paints, solvents, drain cleaners and anything else a little too toxic for your average recycling run.

Plus, those unloved bulky household items, including furniture (indoors and outdoors), bed bases and headboards, carpets, bathroom suites plus bicycles and trikes.

The hazardous waste collection takes place on Saturday, September 21st, and from 10am to 2pm you can bring all your environmentally-dangerous crap to the Wicklow County Council buildings.

If you’re not quite sure what qualifies here, this a list of the kind of hazardous waste that should never hit the bottom of your household bin…

Paints & solvents; batteries; fluorescent tubes; fertilisers; pesticides; poisons; waste medicines, adhesives, inks and resins; caustic soda and waste oils; drain cleaners; cleaning agents & detergents; photographic chemicals; oven cleaners; shoe polishes.

There’s a limit of 10 paint cans per customer, only products in their original labels will be accepted, strictly limited to householders, no commercial or farm waste, and materials must not be left at the venue outside of collection times. Batteries can always be left at any Wicklow County Council recycling centre, whilst paints are taken at Bray Recycling Centre at all times. 

The Bulky Household Waste collection takes place at the same place and times a week later, on Saturday, September 28th. List of acceptable items above – and we checked; no mattresses.

For mattresses, there’s an amnesty day at the Ballyogan Recycling Park in Jamestown on Saturday, September 21st from 9.30am to 5.30pm, householders only, max 2 per customer, and mattresses must be clean and dry. Details here.
