That 2022 Gum Litter Roadshow…

he Gum Litter Taskforce certainly brought out the sun at Burnaby Park when they swung by in 2022.

They just didn’t quite bring out as many people as they might have hoped for this family fun day all about giving little a kick in the gum.

And it’s not like these guys din’t put on a show.

There were Ecocab rides around the park, a basketball machine, a photo wall for selfies, and a bunch of people on hand to remind you that throwing your gum on the ground is all kinds of wrong.

And dumb.

Sponsored by the chewing gum industry, the Gum Litter Taskforce has actually been pretty successful in its campaign, with the recent National Littler Pollution Monitoring report revealing that the percentage of gum as a proportion of litter stood at 9.4% in 2020, down from 10.6% in 2019. And since the very start of the campaign (actually not sure when that was), the proportion of gum as a percentage of litter has dropped by a whopping 64%.

And they’re back at Burnaby Park on Thursday, July 4th, from 12pm to 4pm. And to find out more about this fun day out, we cornered Wicklow County Council’s James Callery and Greystones Tidy Towns stalward Marie Mccooey back in 2022 to find out more.
