hey have, of course, made a huge difference to thousands of people around here over the past three decades.
And today, the Greystones Cancer Support gang celebrated their 30th year of being so much more than a shoulder to lean on.
From the start, this voluntary, self-funding and community-based organisation has provided guidance, encouragement and emotional support on a confidential basis to those people – and their families – affected by cancer.
Available through all stages – from the diagnosis to the treatment and beyond – GCS is all about meeting the individual’s needs in any way that they can.
And being a friend in such times is something they’ve proven themselves to be especially good at, as many of those they’ve helped down through the past 30 years will testify.
Taking place at the Glenview this afternoon, volunteers old and new mingled with survivors and thrivers, and people who had just needed someone to share some gossip with.
Some were there purely to show off their GCS striped scarves. Others might have only been there for the raffle.
Catching the emotional celebration was, of course, the mighty John McGowan. You can check out his full gallery of the afternoon in hi-res right here.
