t all began when Greystones’ Ross Thompson was working for a rather well-known American travel mug company.
So well-known that, hey, we can’t really reveal its name without having to give up our first-born as copyright payment.
It was during his ten years with this baby-snatching drinks giant that Ross began thinking thatthere had to be a better way to take your liquid refreshments with you, whether it be an ice-cold drink on a hot summer’s day or a pipin’ hot coffee on a bitter Greystones summer’s day.
“I wanted to go beyond recycling too,” says Thompson, “to something that was simply reusable. And I wanted an option that was not only sustainable but non-toxic too.
As it so happened, Kambukka over in Belgium had pretty much the very same goals.
And they did something about it, making all their bottles, travel mugs and beyond free from BPA – meaning that they wouldn’t leak harmful chemicals into your scoops.
“It was a perfect fit for me,” says Thompson, “and so, in 2018, I hooked up with some Belgian buddies and launched Kambukka in Ireland.
And being a smart cookie, after a year in the big city, Ross moved his Kambukka operation out to sunny Greystones in October 2019. To be near his family, his morning swim and, most importantly, to Tommaso’s award-winning coffee.
“It’s been so incredibly comforting during all the lockdowns to be able to walk to the office from my home,” Ross smiles. “Who wouldn’t want to start their day with a Mona Lisa smile from Tommaso…?”
And to celebrate the new year, Ross is offering all you beautiful Guide readers (and, hey, the ugly ones too) 10% off any purchase right now. Just add the promo code GG10 at checkout, kids!
