aking a walk through Greystones and Delgany early with our trusty camera on this surprisingly sunny Halloween day, there was a distinct lack of scary monsters and super creeps on the loose.
And not as many haunted houses as we had hoped.
Sure, there were some who, as always, had done sterling work in turning Greystones into Halloween Town just for one day – including Alan Buckley’s incredible ghoul-filled gazebo [right], and the Sweeney’s traditional theme park-worthy display in Delgany Woods [left] – but these guys were clearly part of a small, dedicated horror followers this year.
Searching for that ol’ black magic spirit wasn’t helped, of course, seeing that some halfwits had taken it upon themselves to smash all the hand-carved efforts left at the Pumpkin Pageant in Delgany Wood. Or that so many lazy-ass fecks were leaving all the empty cartridges from their wild and wonderful firework outbursts, usually in the middle of the day, as the sun shone brightly and the rain splattered lightly.
But there was gothic joy to be had. Gillian and the gang down at Tesco went Full Monster Mash, and the free face painting at Daly’s produced some Rick Baker-worthy freaks agus geeks, whilst Maren The Good Witch made the week-long K2Alpacas Pumpkin Patch all the cooler.
And then the trick or treaters began arriving at GG’s door this evening, each one looking even scarier and more Hammer Horror hair-raising than the last.
And suddenly, Halloween Jack is a real cool cat once again. Below is just some of our favourites when it comes to the town’s finest Halloween creations…
And we’ve gathered some incredible creations here, including the always-remarkable Anne Hertz & Son with their Jack In The Box reanimations, Matilda and Amelia revisiting The Shining twins, Kirath’s immaculate clown, the Morrissey lass channelling Wednesday Addams, Nastassja and family scaring the bejiggers out of Charlesland and Glenheron, James O’Dwyer’s Pram From Hell, Enrico and his buddy going Full Peanut Butter & Jelly and so many more…
