At a reception in Greystones Golf Club last night, this year’s annual La Touche Legacy Seminar was launched.
Chairperson of the La Touche Legacy Committee, Mr. George Jones, welcomed all.
This year’s event will be the thirty fourth seminar which makes it one of the longest running conferences held in this country.
Some years ago, the seminar was rebranded to include a Festival of History in association with Greystones Archaeological and Historical Society.
Mr. Jones welcomed and thanked the Chairperson and Committee members from the Greystones Archaeological & Historical Society for their continued association.
He also thanked Wicklow County Council and Greystones Municipal District for their ongoing support for the weekend and welcomed members of both bodies to the launch.
He thanked the people of Greystones and beyond for their support over the years and looked forward to welcoming them along on September 20th and 21st for this year’s seminar. Ms. Rosemary Raughter, Programme Co-Ordinator, outlined this year’s festival under the theme Post World War 2 Ireland. Rosemary said, “Once more, we have managed to arrange an immense talent of speakers for the weekend.”
Some of the speakers like Felix Larkin; Professor Fearghal McGarry and Dr. Michael Kennedy will be making return visits to the seminar along with first time visitors Dr. Eleanor O’Leary from the South-East Technological University; Dr. Sarah-Anne Buckley, NUI Galway and Dr. David Jameson, Trinity College Dublin.
Mr. George Jones concluded the launch by thanking the La Touche Legacy Committee members; Programme Co-Ordinator, Rosemary Raughter and Conference Secretary, Kay Coughlan, and said he looked forward to a great attendance on September 20th and 21st in Greystones Golf Club to hear the many excellent Speakers that will be in Greystones.
