A Walk To Remember At Greystones Harbour

You don’t need a weatherman…

he Alzheimer Society of Ireland have chosen Greystones Harbour as the starting point for their fifth Wicklow trek.

The annual Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is, say the organisers, all about remembering loved ones in a wonderful location.

Which is why they chose Greystones, baby.

Said Claire Fitzpatrick from the local Alzheimer Society Wicklow branch, “This will be a great day for family and friends to get together for a lovely walk along the seafront.

“Some will be doing it for their loved ones who are living with dementia. I will be remembering my mam, Mary, who had Alzheimer’s and passed away 10 years ago this year, and so along with my family members, including Mary’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and friends, we will join many others who will also be remembering their loved ones who are sadly no longer with us.

“It will be a chance to share memories and create new ones together and so I would encourage everyone who can to register now.”

There are 64,000 people in Ireland living with dementia, along with their families and carers, and in 2023, 3,500 people across the country took part in the Memory Walk, raising over €120,000 in the process.

Money raised helps fund vital services for people with dementia, including daycare centres, daycare at home, family carer training, social clubs, cafés, and a national helpline.

The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is the country’s leading dementia-specific service provider and works in the heart of local communities providing dementia-specific services and supports whilst advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and of their carers. Taking place at Greystones Harbour on Sunday, September 22nd at 11am, adult registration is €20 (which comes with an Alzheimer’s Memory Walk t-shirt) and a child’s pack is €5.
