Yep, Tommaso Spennato is something of a highwire act, one of the happiest, friendliest baristas you could ever hope to meet – and yet, quite possibly the grumpiest, sternest grinch in town if you have crossed him in any way.

A no-nonsense cafe, offering some fine Italian cuisine alongside the sensible everyday dishes that your mother used to make, Cafe Delle Stelle is one of those places that’s as much about the food as the charm of the lovely couple – Tommaso and Nadia – behind the counter. The two of them know to always look on the bright side of life. Even if your cafe is on the dark side of the street.

We’ve been meaning to catch up with Tommaso for quite some time for our My Greystones column. It’s just been a case of waiting until it looked like Tommaso was in a good mood. Only took a year.
