Phil Goes To Leinster House

t was a very special celebratory dinner in the Moyles household tonight, after Pa made the trip all the way into the big city to talk at Leinster House.

There to spread the good word on the successful NoFryZone campaign in Wicklow, Phil was a guest of Alan Farrell TD.

Farrell later tweeted a thank you to Moyles, calling his campaign to keep fast food outlets the hell away from schools a ‘terrific initiative‘.

Young Moyles – who had his Friday bath two days early especially – spoke this morning in Conference Room LH2000 to the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Children & Youth Affairs.

And this is how it went…

I was in session B starting at about 11.10am, and it finished up at about 12.25pm. In addition to myself, there was Louise and Jennifer from INDI (Irish Nutrition and Dietetic Institute), who have been behind our campaign for the very outset. Was great to meet them in person.

Also, Mimi from the School of Education at the Open University – who I met at the ASOI conference on May 14th – was also a key-note speaker.

I was very happy with my 3-minute opening statement, and dealt with all questions pretty well. The committee members were very complimentary of what we had achieved in Wicklow. I stressed the need for it to be implemented around schools across the country, and that we had done a lot of the hard work in getting our objective, RT17, adopted.

I am hopeful that the committee will make a recommendation that #NoFryZone should be implemented around schools across the country. It would be another positive step forward for us.
