Are We Being Circle K Jerked Again…?

Yep, Circle K in Blacklion were here to make Greystones’ cars better, faster, stronger and cheaper.

Only, you know, just for one day.

Since then, a pattern has emerged whereby the Rathdown branch of Circle K tends to always charge just a few schekels more than every other Circle K garage around.

Apparently, being in the wrong part of Wicklow can cost you an extra 10c a litre, or more, and it’s proving to be particularly precarious right now as President Joffrey leads America into what looks very much like being another unwinnable war for the US. 

It has put a major pinch of the supply of our car juice, and once again, Circle K in Blacklion seem to be leading the way when it comes to reflecting that, with diesel today at €2.09.5 for the standard fuel, whilst premium is hitting €2.13.9. Petrol is €1.85.9 for regular and €1.93.9 for go-fast.

And you’ve got to love the .9 when it comes to making an extra cent out of us on every litre. What fecker came up with that?

Back in 2019, when we first noticed the great difference in those Blacklion prices, we got in touch with Circle K’s HQ, and they told us that pricing was done on all their sites ‘on an individual basis, based on the site and its individual characteristics and the various costs prevailing in the market any point in time’.

So, how come the other Circle K in Greystones, down at the end of Church Road, is very noticeably cheaper when it comes to diesel? Even though it actually gets less passing traffic in exactly the same town?

Right now, that Circle K Express has diesel at €1.79.9, which is a big, big difference to Blacklion’s €2.05.9. Just to muddy the gas a little, their petrol, meanwhile, is a few cents more, at €1.89.9.

Which is the same up at the Kilpedder Filling Station, where petrol is a at €1.89.9 but diesel is little more respectable at €1.99.9. That beats the usually cheap-as-chips Circle K in Ashford, where diesel today is €2.05.9, but their petrol seems to be the best value around, at €185.9.

Still, with only two petrol stations in Greystones, both of them Circle K, we have both the top price for diesel for miles around, with €2.05.9 at Rathdown, and what appears to be the lowest, sitting pretty at the end of Church Road, at €1.79.9. 

Back in 2019, Circle K told us, ‘We constantly review our price to remain competitive in each area that we operate in and deliver the best value product to our customers’.

Well, it’s certainly good to know that they’re constantly reviewing their prices. And, when it comes to their Blacklion station, constantly coming up to the same conclusion. Which is charge ’em BS, plus VAT.
